Room 99 – Tash’s Relaxing Room

“This is the ‘Relaxing Room’ – aka the formal lounge room. I use it to conduct meetings with my clients (I’m a marriage celebrant), work, write ceremonies yet ultimately it’s used to relax and binge watch Netflix in front of the fire.”

Three words that Tash uses to describe her room – Colour, happy and joy.

“We hoped that by naming it ‘The relaxing room’, it would encourage our boys to not jump around like crazy monkeys, however they’re very attracted to making cushion mountains out of my endless cushion collection.”

“Winter is when this room comes alive with the crackling sounds & smells of an open fire. Our boys will shower and then curl up nude in front of the fire toasting marshmallows.”

“Our dearly departed Staffy named Fred slept in this room. It was his ‘bedroom’ and even though he passed away to cancer back in July, I still visualise him hanging out here with us.”

“My personal fave is my Kirsten Jackson painting that sits above my desk. I am inspired daily and feel super lucky to have such a piece to gaze at during the writing process of a wedding ceremony.”

1. What’s the room and who uses it?
It’s the’Relaxing Room’ – aka the formal lounge room. I use it to conduct meetings with my clients, work, write ceremonies –  yet ultimately to relax & binge watch Netflix in front of the fire. We hoped that by naming it ‘The relaxing room’  it would encourage our boys to not jump around like crazy monkeys,  however they’re very attracted to making cushion mountains out of my endless cushion collection.

2. What do you do for a crust?
I am a marriage celebrant, which ties in with this room, as I have discussed many weddings with many couples in here.

3. What goes on in the room?
Not only do I meet with happy & loved up couples to discuss their wedding day, I sit at my desk behind the couch and complete all their legal paperwork along with custom writing their love story. Once the kids are asleep, this is where my husband Anthony and I retreat to watch TV and relax. Winter is when this room comes alive with the crackling sounds & smells of an open fire. Our boys will shower and then curl up nude in front of the fire toasting marshmallows. It’s been a dream come true to live in a home with a fireplace – first time fireplace owners!

4. Favourite piece in the room and why?
My personal fave is my Kirsten Jackson painting that sits above my desk. I am inspired daily and feel super lucky to have such a piece to gaze at during the writing process of a wedding ceremony. My husband’s fave is the fireplace… tinkering with it is when I see him at his most relaxed and content.

5. Anything on your wish list that you would love to add to the space?
Swap out the Ikea couch for a lounge suite that’s a bit more retro deluxe. Not quite sure what yet… any ideas?

6. What do other people say when they see your room for the first time?
Most will smile and say “Wow… nice home”. I think the colour brings the smile and the sunken lounge… that stepping down into the space… gives the “wow”.

7. Why do you love this room?
It’s very multi-purpose. A place where I work, entertain clients, relax with my husband and enjoy open fires with our kids.

8. What’s one lovely memory you have whilst being in the room?
As it’s the first room you see when you walk in the front door, I used to look forward to seeing our dearly departed Staffy named Fred, asleep on his bed in this room. It was his ‘bedroom’ and even though he passed away to cancer back in July, I still visualise him hanging out here with us.
