A gift to themselves on their 10 year wedding anniversary – the Persian rug was purchased by Mel and her husband in the Upper East Side when living in NYC.

Like many living areas, Mel’s is one that’s used for many an activity. “It’s a playroom, entertaining space, an office and a place to unwind”.

The iconic Tizio lamp is one of Mel’s favourite pieces in the room.

To celebrate the birth of a baby you could give flowers…or amazing artwork like this papier mache zebra head. When their first child Leo was born, this was Mel’s husband’s gift to her.

When they first moved to NYC, Mel and her husband Andrew spotted this credenza at Chelsea flea market. Buying it was the easy part (it was a bargain!), moving it into their apartment was a different story. Strict moving policies in NYC meant that they were restricted from moving furniture in on a Sunday, but after some major convincing to the super, they were eventually allowed to take it into their apartment.

The armchairs originally belonged to Andrew’s late grandparents and were passed down to him when he first moved out of home. “It’s lovely to have that connection in our home. Our boys love to sit on them, and occasionally climb them!”

“We bought the toy ferry for our boys on a recent trip to Sydney. We love buying items for our home when we travel.”

“This piece is by my good friend Leila Jeffreys. She names all her birds and gives them personalities. This is Jimmy – ‘When Jimmy looks in the mirror he sees a peacock’.”

“Our friend Juliette took this photo of us at Leo’s 2nd birthday party, which we held on our apartment’s rooftop (it was very last minute but a great success!). Grady was only a week old so it’s our first family photo with the four of us.”

The book sculpture is by artist Nicholas Jones “It traveled with us to New York and back again. It has always had a special place in our home.”
I agree, the photo of that proud budgie is my favourite thing in that room….and the soft grey paint choice for the walls….and the Persian carpet….I have one on my wish list!
