The Room Illuminated

Room 48 – Annette’s dressing room (Melbourne, Australia)

“The dolls have been with me the longest time, before Elvis before rock n’ roll…”

The chaise lounge was found on Ebay .”I fell in love with it and got hubby to hook up the trailer and drive across the other side of town to pick it up…it was just perfect for my room!”

One of the many pairs of sunglasses in Annette’s room. “A girl has to have a pair in every colour…to match every outfit!”

“Audrey Hepburn symbolises elegance, femininity and a glamour from another era. The elbow length gloves and the little black dress is just the ultimate in simple sophistication.”

“The lamp was a present from someone who just knew I would love it… and I do.”

“I’ve always been an Elvis fan, but it’s only been relatively recently that I’ve gone overboard. Ever since I had “Elvis“ come and entertain at my home for my 50th birthday, everything is suddenly all about Elvis. Now my husband and I go to the Elvis festival in Parkes every year. We have a absolute ball… they play Elvis music in the street all day, there are “Elvises” singing everywhere, we dress up in our rock n’ roll gear and have the best time. My husband and I danced to an Elvis song for our first waltz at our wedding -‘To the wonder of you’ – and I think I fell in love with him whilst dancing to an Elvis song.”

“Bows bows bows… a girl can never have enough bows. Some to wear in the hair, some to clip on a cardigan or on a handbag. When I go to a rock n’ roll market, I usually come home with a new bow. My favourites have to be the cherries, they are guaranteed to make a girl smile!”

Annette has an awesome shoe collection (no surprises there!) and the flamingo shoes are her most recent purchase. “I saw them at a market stall at the ‘Greazefest Rockabilly Festival’ and had to have them…to match my flamingo dress of course!”

“My husband, Sab and I have been rock n’ rolling for about four years now. We often will do two classes a week, then dress up and go to a dance on a Friday or Saturday night. We love it… we have met so many lovely rock n’ roll friends along the way. It’s the most fun you can have while exercising, that I know !”

The vintage pin up in the centre was a gift from Annette’s sister-in-laws, who obviously understand Annette’s taste very well. “I adore it!”

“Every time I come into this room, I can’t help but smile and feel a little happier.”
