The Room Illuminated

Room 55 – Petrina Turner’s kitchen (Melbourne, Australia)

“I love the kitchen because it’s the heart of the apartment, where I can make and create a delicious spread to share with family and friends, and show them I love them. It also makes the most beautiful morning shadows thanks to the lovely light and hanging garden.”

Petrina’s beautiful little hanging garden is very happily placed by the generous kitchen window, soaking up the abundance of light that streams through on sunny days.

“I really love the subtlety of the perspex heart vase from Lovestar… then I go an put blue gum that I’ve coated in glitter in it!”

No stranger to fossicking through second-hand shops to find the perfect pre-loved bargain, Petrina scored this vintage stool, as part of a pair, for $35.00 whilst on a road trip in the country a few years back.

“I spotted this at the Waverley Antique Bazaar a little while ago and couldn’t resist it! I love a little vintage industrial goodness…and green… it just spoke to me.”

Petrina’s vintage apron collection. “I love the amazing details that were put into them – appliqué, lace, embroidery – I’ve picked them up all over the place… op shops… little vintage stores in remote country towns… whenever I see the perfect one I nab it!”

“I love cooking… I’m not a baker but I do a mean grazing table when guests come over.”

A lovely little collection of treasures sit on on the window sill. “I love my little window collection… the brush and metal pan are from my favourite shop, Scout House in St Kilda. The little bunch of pink peppercorns I foraged on a road trip through outback NSW last Christmas.”

Petrina has decorated her fridge with magnets collected from her favorite galleries and exhibitions around the world.
