Kathryn’s bedroom and the Franco Cozzo suite that she drooled over for some time before purchasing. “When home, I spread out and roll around on it, looking in all the mirrors, making faces, admiring the gold. It’s definitely a tight fit…..but I love it. It is home among the chaos of life. Franco and all my crazy clothes all squished in together like sardines. It’s the best. Like being in a teeny weeny fabulous womb. My fabulous safe space.”

“I picked that up in an op shop on Phillip Island. It’s so cheesy and fabulous. Just matches my aesthetic really. I love it’s op shop charm and the majestic style of the cheetah.”

“It’s a case of loving the stuff more than the space. My ridiculous fabulous bedroom suite needs space to breath, relax and be admired.”

“This beautiful blanket is from Oaxaca in Mexico. I love it so much. I did so much travelling with my old theatre company, Strange Fruit but because I was constantly on the move I have no mementos/souveniers at all to show for the 15 years of touring lifestyle. That blanket however is something I picked up, cherished and held onto.”

Kathryn’s collection of fabulous clothes just makes it in to the room!

“I love shrines. In all of my studios I always create a little shrine, similar to the crazy, colourful shrines in Mexico, India and throughout most of Asia. The window display is my little shrine to the world. Lots of Gold, lots of religion and plastic. I love plastic. Tigers are fierce and cool. A must in any shrine.”

“I like to keep a bit of fluff close by at all times. A big fluffy heart brings me a lot of joy.”

“This picture is of Baby Krishna. I love Baby Krishna. Well, I love all the Indian gods. I’ve travelled to India three times and I really love that country. I picked up a whole lot of fabulous frames on one of my Indian trips but again needed to get rid of them because I couldn’t store my stuff. I kept Baby Krishna though.”
1.What’s the room and who uses it?
Bedroom. I use it.
2. What do you do for a crust?
Head Fashion Designer at Gun Shy. My own business.
3. What goes on in the room?
Lounging on my ridiculously fabulous Franco Cozzo black bedroom suite dreaming of being some dirty Versace clad Italian mistress with some hot Italian OTT lover. There’s A LOT of fantasy dreaming going on in my bedroom. Reality is quite far away. Reality is that I am in my polka dot pj’s, woollen socks and leopard dressing gown eating pate, blue cheese and chocolate all at once while watching Netflix. Ignoring the never ending sound of the Blyth St traffic and general Brunswick hoohaa; instead imaging outside my shit venetian blinds is Cinque Terre, Italy. My imagination is GREAT!!!! A lot of staring at my clothes wondering what outfit I will wear next and playing with the cat also takes up A LOT OF TIME.
4. Favourite piece in the room and why?
My Franco Cozzo suite and the gold Lamps
5. Anything on your wish list that you would love to add to the space?
It’s a case of loving the stuff more than the space. My ridiculous fabulous bedroom suite needs space to breath, relax and be admired. I would love for the room to be a lavish Trump style home with some more rugs and large leopard statues. Trump is an absolute dick but you gotta give it to the man, he has style. I freakin love his apartment and everything in it. My kinda home.
6. Describe the room in three words.
Franco Cozzo!!!! Shit!!!!
7. Why do you love this room?
Two words – Franco Cozzo. I drooled over these bedroom suites my whole life. Hands pressed against the windows of the Sydney Rd store admiring the crazy fabulous pieces squished into this shit showroom. Looked up and dreamed every time we drove past the Footscray showroom. The shady history of Franco only makes it more desirable. The ads burnt into my subconscious. I’ve wanted this suite my whole life. So when I finally had some spare mula last year I took the freakin plunge and have never looked back. When home, I spread out and roll around on it, looking in all the mirrors, making faces, admiring the gold. It’s definitely a tight fit…..but I love it. It is home among the chaos of life. Franco and all my crazy clothes all squished in together like sardines. It’s the best. Like being in a teeny weeny fabulous womb. My fabulous safe space.
8. What’s one lovely memory you have whilst being in the room?
Franco Cozzo following me on Instagram. Lying on my Franco, looking at a picture of me on my Franco and seeing for the first time that Franco has liked my pic on Insta. Doesn’t get much better than that mate!
