The Room Illuminated

Room 22 – Kyrie, Denis and Hestor’s lounge room (Adelaide, Australia)

The Noguchi coffee table looks right at home in Kyrie and Denis’ lounge

The photograph above the fire place was taken by Denis, as part of his ‘Ball of Light’ project. This image is called ‘Softly, Softly’. http://www.balloflight.com.au

Kyrie has a self-confessed addiction to chairs, so a good solution to that of course is to collect miniatures – easier to store and fun to display! This one is a miniature Eames Organic Chair

The dining table is a T.H. Brown, an Australian furniture maker from the1960s.

Originally bought for the bedroom, this sideboard sits quite happily for now in their lounge.

The north facing lounge is flooded with sunlight for most of the day.

Kyrie’s favourite piece – a mid-century room divider. The wallpaper in the kitchen was there when they bought the home. Originally put up in the1970s Kyrie and Denis managed to save this one wall when they did the kitchen renovation.

Cups and saucers by Guy Boyd.

Kyrie found these books in a skip bin just prior to moving into their home, after the previous owners had done a big clean out. Kyrie saved them all, kept some and took the rest down to her local op shop. See more on Kyrie’s blog post http://www.retrodelights.com.au/2011/04/big-treasure-chest.html

Kyrie’s mum is a guru of recycling and second hand shopping from way back. As Kyrie puts it “she’s been doing it way before it became ‘cool’.” Kyrie has kept this very informative note, that her mother Jan wrote after purchasing some Guy Boyd pottery for an absolute steal!

Hestor is Kyrie and Denis’ nine year old tabby boy who they’ve had for nearly three years. Since being in their lives he has had the odd modelling stint, featuring in the Cheap as Chips Christmas catalogue wearing an elf suit! He even has his own Facebook page with quite a global following! https://www.facebook.com/pages/Hestor/126212814110756

Hestor has obviously been on the other side of a lens before!

The classic Tretchikoff print – ‘Lady of Orient’.

It all started with one clock from Kyrie’s grandma, then a garage sale or two later there was a little collection! The clocks add such personality and character to the room.
